The problem is that I had another mac, which was leopard, and I sold it. By selling it I passed all the folders in it to my hard drive. Now I bought an new computer which is snow leopard. When I open the hard disk to pass the folders to my new computer I realize that all the files and folder I had on the desktop of my previous computer have an arrow in it. When I try to open the folder or document it says 'The alias “name” can’t be opened because the original item can’t be found'. It also gives me the options for fixing the alias (meaning replacing it for another one), deleting it or just ignore it. The thing is that the only place I have this folders and documents is there. I'm going to loose a lot of data..what to do?
Arq Backup Review. Arq Backup is a cool service that links up to several storage providers so you get a very flexible backup experience; you can even go old-school and backup to a physical drive. It does work on Mac, but it has an old Windows look & feel. WPF: an alternative.NET GUI from Microsoft, currently not supported on Mac. Eto: an open-source cross-platform GUI library developed entirely in.NET by Curtis Wensley. Rhino 5 (for Mac) and Rhino 6 (for Mac and Windows) use this library, and McNeel encourages all plug-in developers. Time Machine is the backup mechanism of macOS, the desktop operating system developed by Apple. The software is designed to work with both local storage devices and network-attached disks, and is most commonly used with external disk drives connected using either USB or Thunderbolt.

There’s yet another contender if you’re looking for an online backup solution. Haystack Software has released Arq, a backup application that uses Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3). Arq offers encrypted backups, flexible scheduling, and the ability to select and exclude files as you see fit.
As access to faster bandwidth has increased while storage costs have come down, online backup services have become more appealing. Arq joins a slew of backup options available to Mac users. All of them aim to complement a local backup plan, and, for most Mac users, Time Machine does the trick. But as we all know (and we do all know, don’t we?) that if something really bad happens—your computer and backup drive suffer a horrible fate at the same time—then you need offsite storage.
Arq has a clean interface that lets you drag-and-drop folders to back them up or to restore them. Your backups are encrypted before they leave your computer. Like Time Machine, Arq keeps multiple versions of your files so you have a backup history.
After the first big upload, the application just makes incremental backups. Backups can be scheduled every hour, daily, or manually. Given that online backups can sometimes take a while, it’s useful that Arq will let you pause a backup and resume after a given time has elapsed. There are no limits on file sizes or types, and Arq can backup external and network drives, too.
